I recently made these Moroccan-inspired carrots, and they were so delicious that they have officially become part of my weekly rotation.

They are buttery, warmly spiced, slightly sweet and ready in about 10–12 minutes.

Even better? Carrots are an easy food-as-medicine addition for supporting digestion and the body's natural estrogen-elimination pathways.

Why Carrots Support Hormone Health

After estrogen is processed by the liver, it is sent to the digestive tract to be eliminated.

Fiber helps move waste through the body and supports regular bowel movements. Without consistent elimination, some estrogen metabolites may be reabsorbed and returned to circulation.

Carrots provide both soluble and insoluble fiber, making them one simple way to support digestive health and healthy hormone metabolism.

Other ways to support healthy estrogen elimination include:

  • Eating enough fiber
  • Staying hydrated
  • Supporting regular bowel movements
  • Eating cruciferous vegetables
  • Exercising regularly
  • Limiting alcohol
  • Prioritizing sleep

The warming spices bring more than flavor. Cumin, paprika, cinnamon and turmeric contain beneficial compounds and antioxidants that can complement an anti-inflammatory, hormone-supportive eating pattern.

10-Minute Moroccan-Style Carrots

Ingredients

  • 4–5 carrots, sliced into thin rounds
  • 1 tablespoon grass-fed butter
  • ½ teaspoon cumin
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric
  • ¼ teaspoon cinnamon
  • Pinch of sea salt
  • A small splash of water, approximately 1–2 tablespoons
  • 1–2 tablespoons pure maple syrup
  • Optional: pinch of cayenne
  • Garnish with fresh parsley

Directions

  1. Melt the butter in a skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the sliced carrots and sauté for approximately 2 minutes.
  3. Add the cumin, paprika, cinnamon and sea salt. Stir well and sauté for another 2 minutes, allowing the spices to become fragrant and coat the carrots.
  4. Add a small splash of water—just enough to create steam without covering the carrots.
  5. Cover the skillet and cook for approximately 6–7 minutes, or until the carrots are tender but not mushy.
  6. Remove the lid and add 1 tablespoon of maple syrup. Stir and cook uncovered for another 1–2 minutes, allowing the remaining liquid to evaporate and the carrots to develop a beautiful glaze.
  7. Taste and add a little more maple syrup if desired.

Simple, nourishing and unbelievably delicious.

This is exactly what food as medicine should feel like: affordable, flavorful and easy enough to make again and again.
